12 Days East Africa Grand Safari Experience

A route that avoids the busiest circuits. You travel from Nairobi to Tsavo East by Premium Class train, spend five nights between the two Tsavo parks, then cross into Tanzania at Holili for Lake Manyara, Tarangire and the Ngorongoro Crater.

Highlights include a guided walk on the Chaimu lava flow and a bush breakfast in Tsavo West. A Zanzibar extension can be added at the end.

Itinerary

We meet you at the airport and take you to your hotel to rest.

Stay: Eka Hotel or similar
Meals: Breakfast

Take the SGR Premium Class train to Tsavo East, where your guide meets you and drives you to the lodge for lunch.

Two days of game drives, or full days with a picnic, reach Lugard Falls on the Galana River, Mudanda Rock and the park’s red-dusted elephants.

Stay: Ashnil Aruba Lodge or similar
Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner

A sunrise game drive, then breakfast and the drive to Tsavo West for lunch. Spend the afternoon watching the lodge waterhole.

Over the next two days, explore lava flows and volcanic craters, walk the Chaimu lava flow with an armed ranger, visit Mzima Springs and enjoy a bush breakfast one morning.

Stay: Kilaguni Serena Safari Lodge or similar
Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner

Cross into Tanzania at Holili, with packed lunches for the drive. Arrive at a lodge on the escarpment above Lake Manyara and spend the afternoon resting.

A short cultural visit to Mto wa Mbu village, then on to Tarangire for lunch. Two days of morning and afternoon drives among baobabs, rivers and large elephant herds.

Stay: Maramboi Tented Lodge or Tarangire Safari Lodge
Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner

Drive up to a lodge on the crater rim for lunch. In the afternoon, visit Olduvai Gorge (optional) or relax with views into the crater.

The next day is a full game drive on the crater floor, among lions, elephants, rhinos and large herds.

Stay: Ngorongoro Serena Safari Lodge or similar
Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner

Transfer to Arusha or Kilimanjaro airport for your flight to Nairobi, or fly to Zanzibar for a beach extension.
